A Nigerian actor, Ali Nuhu has been appointed as the Director General of Nigerian Film Corporation by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The popular Kannywood actor and filmmaker’s appointment was made known in a statement by the Presidential Spokesperson, Chief Ajuri Ngelale.
Ali Nuhu acts both in English and Hausa movies; and he is often referred to by the media as the ‘King of Kannywood.’ Kannywood is a name for the Hausa movie industry.
He is a director, producer, scriptwriter and dancer who combines innovation, creativity and bravery.
Ali Nuhu is popular for movies such as Mansoor (2017), Alaqa (2021) and Sitanda (2006).
He has won several awards, among which are Best Actor, Arewa Films Award (2005); Best Upcoming Actor Award, 3rd Africa Movie Academy Awards (2007); and Best Actor The Future Award (2008).
Commenting on his appointment, many say he is a round peg in a round hole.
On his Instagram page, the controversial Nollywood actor, Yul Edochie, congratulated the newly appointed DG, saying his appointment was well deserved and praying that God will provide him with the required wisdom for effective leadership.
