The Joint Admission and Matriculations Board (JAMB) has declared that individuals with disabilities aspiring to participate in the 2024/2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) can enrol without incurring any registration fees.
During the launch of the registration process nationwide, JAMB Registrar Ishaq Oloyede revealed the board’s commitment to providing free application documents to all Persons Living With Disabilities (PLWD) as a supportive measure.
“To assist PLWD, JAMB will distribute complimentary application materials to all categories of Persons Living with Disabilities for the 2024 UTME/DE,” Oloyede announced.
Ensuring a seamless registration experience for all candidates, Oloyede disclosed that audiobooks would be made available for visually impaired candidates. This digital adaptation of traditional reading materials will be accessible in popular audio formats like MP3, WMV, and WMA, compatible with various devices capable of streaming audio records.
The registrar emphasized that the introduction of audiobooks was a result of the recommendations from the inaugural National Conference on Equal Opportunity of Access to Higher Education in Nigeria.
Beyond visually impaired candidates, JAMB extended the benefits of free registration to individuals with Down syndrome, Autism, Dyslexia disorder, and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
“The disability group will now include candidates with Down syndrome, Autism, Dyslexia disorder, and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD),” he noted.
