Five dons from Obafemi Awolowo University, (OAU) Ife, have conceived an ingenious invention called TomaVeg Chiller. The dons comprise Professors A.M.A Sakpere, and R.E. Okonji, Doctors T.A Morakinyo, O.A Aregbesola, and O.K Ajayi who represented OAU at the 18th batch for the R41 Initiative.
TomaVeg Chiller is engineered to preserve tomatoes and vegetables for extended periods, assuring consumers of freshness and quality.
The machine is equipped with special perforated trays for optimal drainage and air circulation, offering portability, affordability, and sustainability with its hybrid power supply (solar and electricity).
Incorporating ultra-violet Rays, TomaVeg Chiller prevents spoilage, ensuring that stored products retain their freshness, safety, and nutritional value.
According to the distinguished team of inventors, it is committed to further refining the TomaVeg Chiller, with aspirations to secure patents and expedite its commercialization.
The OAU inventors leveraged the knowledge gained from a recently organized two-week intensive R41 initiative sponsored by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) and executed by Innov8 Hub.
