By Saturday, April 20, 2024, all eligible Primary six pupils between the ages of 10-13 years who aspire to gain admission into Junior Secondary School 1 (JSS 1) will sit for the National Common Entrance Examination (NCEE).
The subjects they will be examined on are Mathematics and Basic Science, English and Social Studies, Quantitative and Vocational Aptitude, and Verbal Aptitude.
You can score high marks in this exam if you take the steps that would get you placed in unity schools across Nigeria.
How to Score High Marks in NCEE:
Parent Duties
Parents have important roles to play in preparing their children for NCEE. They need to guide their children to ensure they prepare them well ahead of time and monitor their progress as they anticipate the exam. Buy all necessary books for your child and guide them as they study these books.
Be Ready
To excel in NCEE as a candidate, you need to prepare well ahead of time. You must ensure that you study all exam-related books. Know the date of the exam off hand. Mark it on your calendar.
Attend Tutorial Classes or Extra Lessons
If you wish to excel in this exam, you must join good tutorial classes or enroll for extra lessons.
Study Past Questions
You must lay your hands on past questions, and study them diligently. Look for all past questions on the subjects you are to be examined upon and get the assistance of a guide or mentor who will help you through. Look for the approved CBT practice for NCEE.
Practise Often
Always practice until you get a good grab of the subjects. Constant practice will help you to excel in NCEE.
Learn by Heart
As a pupil preparing for NCEE, you try to learn some concepts by heart. Memorise some points. Commit to memory some formulae that you will need during the exam.
Overconfidence
Don’t be overconfident. Don’t assume you know everything. Be humble enough to study all items.
Faith
Have enough faith that you will succeed. Be confident, and know that you will make it through. Tackle low self-esteem, knowing that you are made for higher ground.
Manage your Time
It is very important to manage your time. During the exam, attempt all simple questions before you go for the most difficult. Know the time frame for each subject, and plan on how to finish within the speculated time. Ensure that the time frame allows you to revise.
Avoid Distractions
Never allow anything that will distract your attention. Stay focused and be determined.
Eat Well
It is very important to eat well so that this will enhance the functionality of your brain. Parents should ensure their children are placed on nutritious food. If you don’t eat well, especially a balanced diet, it may affect how well you assimilate.
Pay Attention to Instructions
Read instructions very well. Adhere to them strictly. Know what questions are asking you to do. Avoid unnecessary mistakes that could cost you marks.
Check NCEE Website
The exam body in charge of NCEE is the National Examinations Council (NECO). Parents should always check the website daily for guidance and necessary instructions and information.
