The Afrobeats genre of the Nigerian music industry is charged at present as singers Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu aka Burna Boy, Paul Okoye aka Rudeboy, and Jaywon are engaged in a tirade with veteran music star, Eedris Abdulkareem.
Abdulkareem had alleged in his old video that Burnaboy copied a lot of Fela’s song, lambasting him for claiming no one paved the way for him in the industry.
However, recently, Burna Boy posted what looked like a derogatory remark about him on his social media page, saying, “I blamed people who donated money to you when you were down with a kidney problem.”
The statement by Burna Boy seemed to have enraged Abdulkareem, who did not take kindly to the comment, saying wishing him or any other person dead was saddening, and disappointing. Making fun of his health crisis and blaming people who helped to keep him alive was very shameful of Burna Boy, he added.
He wrote further, “Threatening my life is a different ball game, but for you to play God? That’s the most nauseating foul prank of all time. Now conscientious Nigerians and the general public are weighing into the matter. and you instantly deleted your demonic prayer for me.”
In another post, Abdulkareem, senior to both Burna Boy and Rudeboy in Nigeria’s music industry, gloated over being able to recover from the donation given to him by fans, chastising Burna Boy further.
The brickbat took another dimension as Rudeboy, in solidarity, came to the rescue of Burna Boy, posting on his Instagram page that Abdulkareem was always insulting any artiste and that he was fond of boasting that he fought for the music industry, and prepared the way for others.
Rudeboy recalled the event he had kept mute about over 20 years ago, how Abdulkareem went behind and collected peanuts after Nigerian artistes had unanimously agreed about the payment conditions and treatment on the 50 Cent show.
Wading into the matter, Jaywon, a popular Nigerian singer, also posted on his X handle that though Abdulkareem had contributed immensely to Nigerian music, he was too proud, a path that Burna Boy was also toeing.
Meanwhile, Abdulkareem believed he would launch a fresh attack at Burna Boy, vowing to release a single in a fortnight entitled, ‘Essay to Burnaboy.’
