Asake, Tems, Rema, Ayra Stars, and many others, all Afrobeats stars, may have a hard time contending with in their trade as predicted by Talent Manager, Paul Okoye, the lover of the Nollywood actress, Iyabo Ojo, who warned that the year 2024 will be tough for the singers.
Okoye disclosed this on his Instagram page, taking into consideration, how Afrobeats stars across all genres are facing an increasingly challenging time blamed on the raging turbulent economy that is biting hard on other sectors too.
Okoye said that due to the high cost of tickets, Afrobeats may not be able to find its feet any longer, and may go under like Reggae, warning that the former should not follow the footsteps of the latter.
However, he exempted Burnaboy and Davido that the only reason they had been able to sustain the momentum was because they were able to hold a few gigs this year.
The Talent Manager expressed that others were in trouble for overpricing themselves or that the tickets were not selling, advising them to reduce their price.
Okoye wrote, “Tough time for Afrobeats (A& B & C class). Artists price themselves out of the market. Not much shows… global economy is not laughing as well. God help us.”
He added, “2024 will be a tough year for Afrobeats. Apart from 2 artists this year ( Burnaboy and Davido). They did few shows, others are in trouble either they overprice, or tickets are not selling.
‘…Let us not do what happened to Reggae musicians. Reduce your prices. Just think. How many shows you did this year,” he admonished.
