A student, Mrs Adelakun Sumayya, and staff, Mrs Opebajo Nofisat, have received cash gifts for picking 30,753 bottles at University of Lagos Environmental Sustainability Challenge. According to Unilag General News, Sumayya emerged Week 8 winner in the student category, collecting a total of 16,853 plastic bottles since the start of the challenge.
In her own, Nofisat, a participant in the staff category, collected 14,900 bottles, emerging the winner of Week 9, ranking as the overall in staff category.
The award ceremony was held recently for weeks 8 and 9 winners of the ongoing University of Lagos Environmental Sustainability Challenge.
Speaking, the Sustainability Challenge Project Lead, Dr Abdulganiyu Adelopo, explained that the project was aimed at tracking, collecting and recycling 1.5 million plastic bottles.
He added that the challenge also was aimed at increasing community participation in sustainable waste management in University of Lagos (UNILAG).
He said over 200,000 bottles have been collected on the campus and processed for recycling, adding that the challenge will continue till the end of the semester.
The University of Lagos Environmental Challenge is a campus drive to track, collect, and recycle one million bottles.
