The stage is ready for the launch of the fifth instalment of the InterswitchSPAK National Science Competition, which commenced yesterday, October 29th, carrying with it high hopes and eager anticipation. In this edition, 81 students will compete for the prestigious title of the finest Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) scholar in Nigeria.
Throughout the application period, over 17,000 students of secondary school age, ranging from 14 to 17 years old, hailing from public and private secondary schools across Nigeria, submitted their applications for a chance to participate.
After the national qualifying examinations, the top 81 contestants are set to captivate the audience in their pursuit of a portion of the substantial N12.5 million prize fund, which will be distributed among the top 3 achievers.
The champion will be awarded an impressive N7.5 million in scholarships spanning five years, in addition to a laptop and monthly stipends. The runner-up will receive N4 million in scholarships spanning three years, along with a laptop and monthly stipends, while the third-place finisher will earn N1 million in scholarships for one year, coupled with monthly stipends and a laptop.
In contrast to previous editions where only the top three participants received monetary rewards, this fifth season introduces an extended pool of winners. In celebration of the fifth edition, Interswitch will bestow financial rewards upon more contestants, with the 4th to 24th place finishers each receiving cash prizes of up to N250,000.
Furthermore, the benefits of this competition will not be confined to the students alone. In recognition of the pivotal role educators play in institutional learning, teachers will also receive well-deserved recognition and rewards for their exceptional contributions.
