The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, expressed his delight and pride in witnessing the active engagement of the University staff in the recently revived staff games.
During the opening ceremony of the 2023 edition of the University Staff Games held at the University Stadium, Prof. Egbewole stated, “I’m overjoyed to see that we have a highly fit workforce and one that takes pride in our esteemed institution.”
While highlighting the significance of sports in maintaining good health, the Vice Chancellor encouraged staff to prioritize regular physical exercise, stating, “Preventing health issues through exercise is preferable to incurring medical expenses.”
The Director of Sports at the University of Ilorin, Prof. Tajudeen Ibraheem, also expressed his pleasant surprise at the impressive turnout of staff members. He noted that the significant participation of the University’s employees is a testament to their enthusiasm for the event and their appreciation of a supportive management.
Prof. Ibraheem expressed gratitude to the University’s leadership, particularly Vice Chancellor Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, for their unwavering support in organizing the Staff Games. He also acknowledged the motivation provided by the presence of Prof. Egbewole and other members of the management team at the event.
Additionally, Prof. Ibraheem expressed appreciation for the active participation of all University staff and students, including Professors, Heads of Departments, and Directors, as well as the contributions of the media team from the Directorate of Corporate Affairs, which made the tournament memorable.
Regarding the Staff Games becoming an annual event, the Director of Sports expressed his gratitude for overcoming the previous abandonment that began in 2019. Beyond the physical benefits, he emphasized the role of the event in fostering social interaction among staff, sharing how the games facilitated connections and idea sharing.
Prof. Ibraheem stressed the vital role of sports in promoting health, noting its positive impact on various body systems, including circulation, digestion, and hormonal regulation, among others. He also highlighted the benefits of sports in enhancing social interaction and overall happiness among staff, participants and spectators alike.
