Students Look on Tinubu for Loan Bill

All eyes are now on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to accent the Student Loan (Access to Higher Education) Act (Repeal and Re-enactment) Bill, 2024, which has been passed by the Senate. The Clerk of the National Assembly is expected to send a copy to the President after the Senate has perfected its work on it.

After it has been accented to by the President, the loan becomes a reality where eligible students will have access to it.

The Senate, while working on the Bill, had removed all strict conditions that are hindrances to students from accessing the loan.

It will be recalled that President Tinubu had transmitted the Bill to the National Assembly last week for consideration and passage.

Following this, the Senate acknowledged the report of the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) which considered it.

The report was presented during the plenary by the Chairman of the Committee, Senator Muntari Dandutse of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Katsina State.

The Bill allows indigent Nigerians to access higher education easily through interest-free loans.

Students can obtain the loan through the Nigerian Education Loan Fund established in the Act to provide education for all Nigerians.
