The Federal Government has vowed that it would extend its suspension of foreign universities issuing substandard and fake degree certificates to more countries like Uganda, Togo, Kenya and Niger Republic.
This was disclosed by the Honourable Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman while speaking during a media interview recently.
Professor Mamman said, “We are going to extend the dragnet to such countries like Uganda, Kenya, and Niger where such institutions have been set up.”
Recently the Federal Government had axed 18 foreign universities, banning them from operating in Nigeria.
It further warned students and parents to avoid enrolling in them, describing them as ‘degree mills.’
It also suspended temporarily the evaluation and accreditation of degree certificates from Togo and the Republic of Benin.
Likewise, the National Universities Commission (NUC) has also provided the list of 58 banned universities that were closed down as a result of gross violation minimum standard of education.
