In a gesture of gratitude, Nigeria bestows National Honours and tangible rewards upon the Senior Men’s National Football Team, the Super Eagles, for their remarkable journey to the Africa Cup of Nations championship final in Cote d’Ivoire.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu expressed his admiration for the team during a ceremony at the State House in Abuja, highlighting their exceptional performance as a symbol of national unity and achievement.
The players and officials were each honoured with the prestigious Member of the Order of the Niger (MON) award, alongside key figures from the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF).
Additionally, they were presented with apartments and land plots in the Federal Capital Territory as a token of appreciation for their dedication and success.
President Tinubu commended standout players like William Ekong and Victor Osimhen, praising their resilience and contribution to the team’s journey.
Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh, acknowledged President Tinubu’s unwavering support for sports and applauded the NFF for ensuring smooth and crisis-free participation in the tournament.
In response, Ekong expressed gratitude for the recognition and gifts, affirming the team’s commitment to strive for gold in future competitions.
The ceremony, attended by dignitaries including Vice President Kashim Shettima and key government officials, celebrated the Super Eagles’ achievements and emphasized the nation’s pride in its sporting heroes.
