A 300-level student of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) Barnabas Peter, has emerged as the overall winner at the start-up Pitch Competition of the Project Innovation 2 Marketing (12M) Accelerated Incubator Programme.
The event, which was held recently, was organised by the Innovation Technology Management Office (ITMO), UNILAG.
Peter’s success was a result of a rigorous 6-week incubation programme where he displayed his business and entrepreneurial skills at an event where the brilliance of other young entrepreneurial minds selected across the country was on display.
He showed his superior innovative skill by designing ‘Travaye,’ a digital platform created to assist tourists, low-income earners and individuals seeking existing places and locations to visit.
Speaking during the ceremony, the UNILAG Vice Chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, represented by Deputy VC, Professor Obinna Chukwu, who led other members of the management team, said the 12M project was immeasurable to the institution.
Professor Chukwu added that Peter’s victory not only marked a personal achievement but also stood as a testament to the academic excellence and innovative spirit fostered within the UNILAG.
The ITMO Director, Dr Abiodun Gbenga-Ilori said that the trainees of the 50 incubatees by ITMO in collaboration with Research and Innovative System for Africa (RISA) will remain a reference point for capacity building in Nigeria.
She announced that twenty of the participants will be awarded cheques of N850,000.00 and an additional N500,000.00 to be awarded to outstanding start-up ideas, as well as equip them with the necessary skills and resources to succeed from ideation to commercialization.
