Students of Mass Communications, University of Ilorin have emerged winners of the first creative advertising pitch at the maiden edition of the Advertising Industry Colloquium held at the prestigious Sheraton Hotel and Towers Ikeja, Lagos.
University of Ilorin was represented by Ijeboya Stephen, Ijekoya Aduragbemi and Animashaun Ahmed, all of the Department of Mass Communications, University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Kwara State.
Out of the three universities that contested, the University of Ilorin won the first Prize of NI,000,000 (one million Naira), Lagos State University emerged second and won N750,000 (seven hundred and fifty thousand Naira) while Babcock University came third carting away N500,000 (Five hundred thousand naira.
Ijekoya Aduragbemi, also representing the University of Ilorin, spoke with Black Campus Magazine expressing happiness at winning the pitch. Ijekoya said, “We are happy to win the pitch and we can win because of the hard work and dedication we put into the work.”
Chairman of the Jury and managing director of Noah’s Ark Communications, Lanre Adisa praised the schools that participated in the pitch. He said the students have put in their best, adding that there are still improvements to be made to master the act of pitching.
The pitch on Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) was given to the students to test their understanding of the advertising pitch and where to improve as they progress in their academic pursuits. The pitch required them to proffer solutions to how FRSC can reduce the high spate of accidents in the country, and bring safety to the road through commercials that will correct endemic recklessness by drivers.
The Advertising Industry Colloquium was organized by the Advertisers Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON) to boost stronger synergy and promote effectual congruence between academia and practitioners in the advertising and marketing communications industry.
