CIS means Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers. The programme is designed for persons willing to cut a niche in the securities and investment world. CIS exams are conducted twice a year, on the last Tuesday and Wednesday of March and September.
The new examination of CIS comprises levels 1 and 2. The two levels consist of 12 subjects each.
The subjects are:
- Financial Accounting and Financial Statement Analysis
- Economics and Financial Market
- Quantitative Techniques and Statistics
- Corporate Finance
- Equity Valuation and Analysis
- Fixed income valuation and Analysis
- Derivative Valuation and Analysis
- Portfolio Management
- Commodity Trading and Features
- Ethics and Professional Standards
- Law Relating to Securities and Investment
- Regulation of Securities and Corporate Finance.
All the 12 examination subjects are assessed at levels 1 and 2.
There are four examination papers in each level, while 3 hours are allotted to each of the examinations.
Examination 1 covers all the basic concepts that students need to pursue the study of courses like Investment Analysis, Asset Valuation, and Portfolio Management.
The three courses that Examination 1 covers are: Financial Accounting and Financial Statement Analysis, Economics and Financial Markets, and Quantity Techniques.
Examination 11 covers the following courses: Corporate Finance, Equity Valuation and Analysis, and Fixed Income Valuation and Analysis.
Examinations 111 covers: Derivative Valuation Analysis, Portfolio Management, and Commodity Trading and Features.
Examination 1V covers three courses: Ethics and Professional Standards, Law Relating to Securities and Investments, and Regulations of Securities and Corporate Finance.
Qualifications
If you have an HND or university degree in any subject you can study for ACS qualification.
However, if you have a professional business qualification approved by the CIS Council for Student Registration, you will be able to study for ACS qualification with or without a first degree on the current examination.
You can either register as a student in a training contract or as an independent student.
You need not have studied finance or related courses at a degree level, but you must be good in Mathematics, or have an analytical mind.
The following professional qualifications are eligible to apply for ACS: Chartered Institute of Administration (ACIA) Chartered Institute of Insurance (ACII) Chartered Institute of Bankers (ACIB), Institute of Chartered Secretaries & Administrators (ACIS)
Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACAA), Institute of Chartered Accountants (ACA): ICAN, ICAEW, ICAS, ICA.
