Now that every candidate has got his result, except the 64, 624 results that were withheld, candidates can speculate which level they belong.
The breakdown of the results shows that 1, 842, 464 results have so far been released out of which seventy-seven percent scored less than 200.
JAMB Cut-off Point
For those who scored less than 200, it is not yet over, the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has not yet determined the cut-off mark. JAMB has a history of lowering cut-off marks when overall results are not too good.
Last year’s JAMB cut-off mark was 150, meaning candidates who scored below 200 had the chance of admission into tertiary institutions. So don’t be downcast; chances are that you may still be admitted.
If eventually you do not succeed this year, there is another JAMB for you next year. However, this has not gone out of hand yet.
Universities’ Cut-off points.
After JAMB has determined its cut-off mark, the Senate of all universities will still sit to determine their cut-off points. This means with JAMB’s cut-off point your admission is not guaranteed yet. You still have to meet up with the requirements of each university.
Last year, prominent universities like the University of Lagos, University of Ibadan, and Obafemi Awolowo University set their cut-off mark at 200, while some other universities’ cut-off marks ranged from 150-170.
The Polytechnics and Colleges of Education settled for 150 and 140, so chances are that you may still be admitted.
Change of institutions and courses
The JAMB change of institution and course form for 2024/2025 is available on the official website of JAMB at www.jamb.gov.ng.
This means JAMB has opened the portal for candidates who wish to make corrections in the selection of their institution.
Candidates still have the opportunity to change from one institution to the other, or even change their courses, in case the cut-off point in the university they opted for is high.
How to change University/Course
When you want to switch over from one course to the other at JAMB’s level it can be done multiple times. As of 2023, the cost for correction of courses and institutions was N2,500.
Steps to follow
- Enter JAMB registration portal by clicking here or visit www.jamb.gov.ng
- Click on the web page that loads up. Click on the link “change of course/institution”
- Entre your JAMB Registration Centre Username and Password on the login page
- Navigate to the Side menu bar, Hover on Change of course/institution, and enter UTME Reg. No
- Enter the Pin and Serial No and click on the “Proceed” button to select your choice of course/institution
Note that the PIN & Serial number can only be used for one service at a time.
All corrections must be done by candidates themselves not by proxy.
Counseling
If you got below 200 in this UTME, or fail to meet the cut-off mark whenever it is determined either by JAMB or institution, don’t be discouraged.
Don’t think you are that bad.
Never think you can’t make it.
If this year goes without you getting admitted, there is another year waiting for you. Don’t allow low self-esteem to affect you. Never allow depression to weigh you down. Don’t look down on yourself for scoring low marks in JAMB. You have done your best.
