The University of Abuja has issued directives on the allocation of bed spaces on its campus, announcing the range of fees for the different hostels.
According to the school authority in a release, new male and female hostels on the main campus attract N40,000, while international students (foreigners) hostels cost N100,000, and international students hostels (Nigeria) cost N75,000.
It said old male and female hostels, main campus, attract the sum of N25,000, male and female hostels, mini campus, cost N20,000, while Postgraduate hostel goes for N300,000.
It informed that only limited bed spaces of about 6000 are available and that more than 3200 are in the mini campus of the institution; hence, allocation will strictly be on a first-come, first-served basis.
While informing students that hostel accommodation is not by right and that the University is not obliged to provide accommodation for all its students, all those who cannot secure accommodation on the school campus are directed to search for alternative arrangements off-campus.
It warned students that squatting and illegal stay within the campus under whatever guise is prohibited, and that the authority will fish out the perpetrators as well as eject them out of the hostels while those who house them will lose their bed spaces in addition to other punishment as deemed necessary by the Senate of the institution.
It further announced that swapping will not be tolerated and that there will be zero tolerance for any acts and omissions that inhibit decent, hygienic and civilised living on the campus.
Students are also advised to be wary of fraudsters, as the allocation process does not involve cash payment, and it is strictly electronic through portals.
