The Centre for Value and Leadership (CVL) has honoured three female vice-chancellors of Nigerian universities with the awards of Excellence as Exceptional Leaders in recognition of their outstanding contributions to tertiary education in Nigeria during its 64th Leadership without Title Tribute Colloquium held at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA).
All three female vice chancellors are Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, the Vice Chancellor of Lagos State University, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) and Professor Adenike Oladiji, the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology (FUTA) Akure.
Honouring the three female vice-chancellors during the Colloquium themed, “Breaking the Barriers, Building Bridges: Women Leading the Way in Education” the Founder/CEO of CVL, Professor Pat Utomi explained that the awards were for their outstanding contribution to tertiary education in Nigeria.
Utomi, a Professor of Political Economy, and Management expert speaking virtually said CVL chose to honour the three vice chancellors in recognition of how they have broken barriers, shattered glass ceilings, challenged the status quo, and made valuable contributions to university administration in Nigeria.
He charged the awardees to continue to set the pace, clear the path for, and inspire the upcoming generations.
Professor Utomi during the ceremony stressed the need for society to desist from ways and cultures that see women as mere possessions, and subjugate their contributions to the society at large.
The Chairman of the Colloquium, Barrister Abimbola Hundeyin, the Secretary to the Lagos State Government, who was represented by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Health, Dr Kemi Ogunyemi, while congratulating the honourees described the awards as well-deserved regarding their values and impact in tertiary education.
