Baze University, Abuja has committed itself to sports development as sporting activities took off in the university campus following the opening of the TY Danjuma Sports Court recently. The Sports Court was commissioned by the Founder, Proprietor and Pro-Chancellor of the University, Senator (Dr) Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed.
Students have begun to make use of the facility as they enjoyed themselves at the end of every busy school day and on weekends, playing basketball, volleyball and football at the court.
Meanwhile, the University, as well, has shown tremendous efforts at developing its host communities in a bid to fulfilling its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
This effort was felt recently as Baze University Entrepreneurship Club, led by its Coordinator, Shulammite Paul, paid visitation to the University’s three Fulani host communities.
According to Rukayya Ibrahim Aliyu, the club explained that the purpose of its visitation was to initiate collaborative engagement with the communities, and see how they can digitalize them, as well as achieve economic development through skills acquisition
Responding, the communities expressed their satisfaction of the proposals and potentials open to them, promising to give hundred percent commitment and support to the initiative.
They listed their needs as comprising borehole, classroom chairs for their schools and uniforms for their children.
However, the club promised to make the university management and its development partners aware of communities’ demands.
The club is poised to carry out a survey of the entire three settlements, as well as need and resources analysis to make the engagement problem driven and sustainable.
It said the purpose of intervention is to set up social enterprise that will eventually emancipate the communities, giving them greater capacity and leverage.
