The British Council has blamed the increase in the fee of the International English Language Test System (IELTS) on the hike in the cost of conducting its examinations.
According to the notice issued by the Council, the new fee hike is linked with the increased costs of the delivery of its examinations, which offer a wide range of services and support to enable clients to achieve their goals.
The latest increase to N139,000 is the second time in five months. In September, the fee has seen adjustments from N80,000, N90,000 to N107,500, before the new price.
Applicants are now to pay the sum of N139,000 for the Computer Academic and General Training Modules from Feb.1, 2024.
The other prices listed by the Council are IELTS on Paper Academic and General Training Modules, which costs N134, 000, UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI): N149,000, Life Skills: N13,000, and One Skill Retake (O.S.R): N87,570.
The new prices of the IELTS range of tests will be effective for registrations on or after February 1, 2024.
IELTS is widely accepted globally by non-native English speakers as evidence of their language proficiency.
