CPDI Africa, the Community Planning and Design Initiative for Africa, a research-oriented organization dedicated to fostering new architectural languages within Africa and the Diaspora, has initiated a campaign to raise awareness about the rich architectural heritage of Africa. The campaign is taking place at the Mandela House, which serves as the hub for CPDI Africa at the African University of Science and Technology (AUST) in Abuja.
Having formalized a partnership earlier in the year, CPDI Africa and AUST launched the awareness campaign with a walkthrough session, drawing the participation of the AUST President and other senior management members.
During her introductory remarks, Architect Nmadili Okwumabua, the Director of CPDI Africa, explained that the walkthrough aimed to showcase the centre’s purpose, potential, and forthcoming initiatives not only in Nigeria but across the entire African continent.
Okwumabua emphasized the origin of the architectural designs exhibited in the HUB’s gallery, attributing them to African historical arts crafted by talented artists and architects.
Responding to the collaboration, the Acting President of AUST, Prof. Azikiwe Peter Onwualu, FAS, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership and encouraged all attendees to make the most of the opportunities presented.
Prof. Onwualu specifically urged heads of departments, particularly those in the civil engineering department, to collaborate closely with the hub and its team. He envisioned the CPDI HUB on the AUST campus evolving into a research centre for AUST engineering students and foreign engineers in the future.
