A don, and member of the Governing Council of Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Oyo, Professor Abbas Adedibu, has cautioned the National University Commission (NUC) on how approvals are granted for the establishment of universities. Professor Adedibu expressed this opinion when he visited the Vice Chancellor of Ajayi Crowther University (ACU), Professor Timothy Adebayo.
In a manner making his reservation known, Professor Adedibu said, “In Nigeria, we have some universities that only qualify as mushroom institutions; I don’t know how the National Universities Commission approved such schools.”
Meanwhile, he praised ACU that it was far above many private institutions in Nigeria, saying, “I would love to come back and reassess the academic credentials again, but with my little interaction with the institution today, I am sure the findings will be as good as the school’s environmental excellence.
He commended the management of the school led by their VC for their dedication to elevating the institution to a model status among private universities in Nigeria.
