The Federal University of Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has declared war on drug abuse and other crimes among the students of the University.
This was disclosed by the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Abayomi Fashina while playing host to the delegation of the Youths’ Coalition for Education in Nigeria (YCEN).
YCEN is a body of youth-friendly resource persons whose goals include sensitizing the youths against drug abuse and immoral acts on the campuses of tertiary institutions.
Professor Fashina disclosed that the war would make his management team collaborate with YCEN in sensitizing the students against drug abuse and other related unhealthy practices during the forthcoming orientation programme for freshers being admitted into the University.
He identified poor parenting as the cause of drug abuse and related crimes by the majority of Nigerian youths, calling on all stakeholders to combat the menace and rescue youths from harmful acts of drug abuse and related crimes.
He added, “For security reasons, I have now taken it upon myself to do patrol on the campus and it has paid off,” saying the institution would work with YCEN to play a key role in the sensitization talk during the forthcoming orientation week for fresh students and others.
