The Federal University Oye Ekiti (FUOYE) has signed a 5-year Memorandum of Understanding with Washington State University.
According to the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Abayomi Fashina, FUOYE is one of the six universities to sign the MoU.
Others are Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), and Bells University of Technology, Ota also entered into collaboration with Washington State University.
Both Caleb University, Lagos and the University of Abuja (UNIABUJA) are also included in the collaboration.
In the words of Professor Opoola, the goal of the partnership is to build collaboration across relevant disciplines to have an impact on interrelated strands of activity.
The activity, according to Professor Opoola, includes broadening educational access and equipping the youths with the necessary tools for strengthening their communities.
It is also meant to achieve their economic security, enhancing food security through efforts to mitigate the effects of drought, crop diseases and pests by addressing social and policy factors that can improve access to a healthy food supply.
The goal also includes increasing health equity by addressing the social determinants of health and vulnerability to disease.
