The examinations conducted in both the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus (UNEC), and the University of Allied Health Sciences, Enugu, have been declared unacceptable by the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC).
The rights group expressed this through a statement where its Executive Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, described the examinations conducted by the two universities as illegal… by any standard.
Professor Akintola added that the conduct of the examinations is illegal because they were conducted on days declared as public holidays by the Nigerian government.
“These are… outright disobedience by the vice-chancellors of both institutions. We expect the Minister of Education to take up the matter with them. Failure to call them to order will only egg them further to act… against the policies and decisions of FG in future,” said the rights group.
“Meanwhile, we are constrained to declare both the examination and the tests taken in both universities as illegal, illegitimate, unlawful, and unconstitutional,” expressed the rights group which also pronounced the examinations as ultra vires, null and void.
The group called on the vice-chancellors of the two institutions to ensure that both Muslim and Christian students who missed the examination or tests are not sanctioned
The two universities conducted their examinations and tests on Tuesday, April 9, and Wednesday, April 10, 2024.
While UNEC conducted its examination on Sallah day, the University of Allied Health Sciences conducted its two tests on Saturday, which fell on the days the Federal Government declared as public holidays, according to MURIC.
