After several hours of discussion with the representatives of the Federal Government, the labour union wants the old fuel price retained as the representatives of government argued in favour of subsidy removal.
The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) represented by its National President, Comrade Joe Ajaero argued that the removal of petroleum subsidy would inflict hardship on the Nigerian workforce.
Ajaero decried the decision by the government not to engage Labour in discussions on how it would cushion the effect of the subsidy removal before the pronouncement.
However, one of the representatives of the FG during the meeting, Mr Dele Alake, was upbeat that further discussions on the issue would yield good fruit, as consensus would be reached.
The Governor of Central Bank, Godwin Emefiele, former Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomole, the Group Chief Executive Officer of Nigeria National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, Mele Kyari and Dele Alake were on the side of the government.
Meanwhile, Labour represented by NLC President, Joe Ajaero and the President of Trade Union Congress (TUC), Festus Osifo.
