Neuralink, a company co-founded by Elon Musk aims to build direct communication channels between the brain and computers has made a landmark achievement in neurotechnology, which aims to connect human brains to computers to help tackle complex neurological conditions.
A tiny device named Telepathy was put inside the head of patients who had lost the use of their limbs. The wireless gadget has 10000 electrodes designed to let people use devices by thinking instructions.
The first patient was recovering well, Musk told followers on his social media platform X
“promising brain activity has been detected after the procedure and the patient is recovering well”
When this project is fully perfected, it aims to cure obesity, and depression and restore sight. It will also enable web browsing and telepathy.
By this medical revolution, Musk’s Neuralink has joined the small community of other companies who have implanted their devices in humans.
Musk’s firm mission is to unlock human potential for the future by restoring autonomy to people with ‘unmet medical needs’
Among other companies to make similar advances in the field is the Ecole Polytechnique Federale in Lausanne (EPFL) in Switzerland, which has successfully enabled a paralysed man to walk just by thinking.
This development in science and medicine may be welcomed by many, but some others fear an invasion of Cyborg in no distant time.
