The University of Ibadan since 2016/2017 run a 4.0 grading system, against the 7.0 system it used to run.
According to the CSFUI Fresher’s Arm, The new grading system conforms with the National University Commission (NUC) and the international grading system.
The new system entails that no Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) at each level should be less than 1. 0.
As opposed to the 30 units used before, the maximum units for each level is now 40, where a student is supposed to pass at least 60 percent of the 40 units in a session before being allowed to proceed.
At the 100 level, a student must pass an average of 24 units, at the 200 level, he must pass 48 units and, at the 300 level, he must pass at least 72 units before he can advance to the next level.
The grades to be used for students who have completed their course satisfactory under the new grading system are as follows:
A. 70 and above – 4
B. 60-69 per cent – 3
C. 50-59 per cent – 2
D. 45-49 per cent – 1
E. 40-44 per cent – 0
Under the new 4-Point Grading system, the scale for the classification of degrees is stated thus:
3.5 – 4.00 ( First Class Honours)
3.0 – 3.49 (Second Class Honours, Upper Division)
2.0 – 2.99 (Second Class Honours, Lower Division)
1.0 – 1.99 (Third Class Honours)
Students whose CGPA is less than 1.0 shall not be awarded a degree.
