The College of Medicine, University of Lagos has inducted 134 set of physicians and 26 dental surgeons into the medical profession.
The event which took place on Wednesday August 30, 2023 was organized for 2019/2020 class of Medical and Dental Science students.
Speaking during the occasion the Provost of the College of Medicine, Professor David Oke, expressed that the induction marked another fulfillment of the institute’s mandate of addressing the manpower needs of the medical profession.
While addressing guests, parents and guardians who witnessed the occasion, Professor Oke vouched for the ability of the new physicians and dental surgeons to rise above numerous challenges bedevilling medical practices in Nigeria.
He advised the graduates to be”Open-minded, explore new frontiers of knowledge and gear up for interdisciplinary collaborations as they proceed into the field of practice.”
Professor Oke lamented that dwindling funds for education and the health sectors in the country are the cause of the continued infrastructural decay and brain drain.
Meanwhile, the Registrar, Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), Dr Tajudeen Sanusi, administered the Physicians’ oath on Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) and Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) graduates.
Sanusi implored the newly graduated physicians and dental surgeons to be good ambassadors of their alma mater, College of Medicine University of Lagos, and Nigeria anywhere they find themselves.
