The management of Wesley University, Ondo, has responded to claims made by a columnist from Vanguard Newspaper, Owei Lakemfa, regarding alleged salary arrears and other issues.
In a statement signed by the Vice Chancellor, Rt. Rev. Prof. Samuel Sunday Obeka, the university described the publication as malicious and false, aimed at tarnishing its reputation.
The statement clarified that Wesley University operates independently, with its own Board of Trustees, Governing Council, and Senate, separate from the Methodist Church Nigeria.
The university refuted claims of owing 29 months’ salaries and emphasized its commitment to financial transparency and regulatory compliance.
Furthermore, the statement addressed accusations regarding pension collection, pre-degree programs, and the engagement of part-time lecturers.
It explained that the university discontinued the use of part-time lecturers due to academic disruptions and opted for visiting, sabbatical, and full-time lecturer options instead.
The Vice-Chancellor highlighted the university’s recent accreditation of academic programs and successful hosting of professional council meetings as indicators of its commitment to academic excellence. He urged the public to disregard the false publication and reiterated the university’s dedication to quality education and standards.
In conclusion, the Vice Chancellor reassured the public of Wesley University’s ongoing efforts to improve its facilities and accommodate new academic programs, including plans to host additional medical courses in September 2024.
