Three persons were killed and another seriously injured by a gunman at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, USA on Wednesday.
Police said the shooting started on the fourth floor of the building that houses UNLV’s Lee Business School. The gunman went to several floors before he was killed in a shootout.
Four other persons were also taken tolocal hospitals due to symptoms of panic attacks.
According to The Associated Press, the gunman was a 67-year-old professor who had unsuccessfully sought a job at the school.
According to an eyewitness monitored on CNN, “…what happened today is a heinous, unforgivable crime… If it hadn’t been for the heroic actions of one of those police officers who responded, there could have been countless additional lives taken,”
The Gun Violence Archive, an online archive of gun violence incidents, there have been 631 mass shootings in the United States this year.
President Joe Biden reacted to the shooting in UNLV by calling on Republicans in Congress to pass a ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.
