The fear of EFCC is the beginning of wisdom as the Nollywood actress, Destiny Etiko, was more cautious the way she sprayed Naira notes at a function recently. Etiko attended a colleague’s wedding instead of showering the bride with rain of Naira notes as is the usual practice, she adopted a more cautious way of spraying, and handling bundles of notes to the bride.
One fan of Etiko, Agnes Queenzy, having watched the video posted by the actress while she sprayed the bride with the bundle expressed, “I love the way you spray the money. We don’t want to hear about money laundering and mutilation.
It could be recalled, that a controversial celebrity was recently arrested at Pinnok Estate by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for alleged abuse of Naira notes, spraying of Naira notes, and currency mutilation, among others.
Mutilating Naira notes or coins is a punishable offence according to the law (CBN Act Section 21).
The Clean Note Policy was instituted by the Central Bank of Nigeria in 2007 to improve the physical appearance and lifespan of the banknotes in circulation.
Counterfeiting, spraying, stapling and tearing, sale of currency, and mutilation of bank notes are considered as abuse of Naira notes.
According to the EFCC, it was committed to restoring the dignity of Naira.
