Chief Akintola Williams, the first Chartered Accountant in Nigeria, who founded the first indigenous accounting firm, Akintola Williams & Co, has died.
A report said the doyen of accounting died this morning at the ripe age of 104, having served humanity and Nigeria meritoriously.
On August 9, 2023, Akintola Williams celebrated his last birthday, turning 104 years on the surface of the earth.
He was the first President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), having played a significant role in establishing the Association of Accountants in Nigeria (AAN), in 1960.
He, as well, was instrumental in the establishment of the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE), and also a signatory to the original Memorandum and Articles of Association of NSE on September 15, 1960.
At the National level, he was a member of the committee set up by The Federal Government to conduct the feasibility study on how viable the NSE would be if established.
He was the Founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Musical Society of Nigeria ( (MUSON) among many other responsibilities he shouldered when alive.
