The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has hinted that blind candidates will be excluded from maps, diagrams, charts and illustrations in test items meant for the conduct of the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME).
The is contained in the virtual address By the Registrar of JAMB, Professor Is-haq Oloyede while addressing the nation’s commissioners for education.
He said the Board will work towards ensuring that diagrams, illustrations, maps and charts are eliminated in questions for the blind candidates from 2024 UTME with such questions having the same difficulty indices as other test items.
He stated that the Board’s provisions for the blind and physically challenged is to ensure that all candidates with disabilities are not disadvantaged on account of their situation.
Professor Oloyede disclosed that the development was in line with the resolutions taken at the National Conference on Equal Opportunity of Access to Higher Education in Nigeria, which was organized by the JAMB-Equal Opportunity Group ( JEOG).
He added that the categories of candidates who suffer from Downs Syndrome, Autism, Dyslexia and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) would now be listed under disability group of the Board.
