Impersonators have highjacked the free Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) application forms created by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) for persons with disabilities.
The Registrar of JAMB, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, disclosed this when he received the delegation of the Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) recently in his office.
He said the Impersonators pretended to be disabled; hence the Board had adopted a measure of amending the verification process to enable only genuine persons with disabilities to enjoy the facility.
He explained that the measure to amend the verification process was to allow only genuine candidates with disabilities who possess five O’Level credit passes to enjoy the free application document.
He also informed that JAMB-Equal Opportunity Group (JEOG) has been expanded to include the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) in the verification process to allow only physically challenged persons to enjoy the free application Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) forms.
According to Professor Oloyede, the new measure would take prospective candidates with disabilities to pay recommended fees at the point of registration while JEOG would refund the registration fee at a later date.
He said, “We have amended the process in such a way as to enable us to easily verify the genuine beneficiaries, the candidate will pay at the point of registration and the refund would be effected by JEOG.”
Oloyede added that besides the free application forms, candidates also would benefit from admission into any programme of their choice if they meet the minimum requirements.
The Registrar emphasised that JAMB was committed to welcoming initiatives aimed at improving inclusive education which he noted as one of the ingredients for stabilizing the society.
