Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, Lagos State, has partnered with NEAR Foundation, a non-governmental organisation to build and donate ultra-modern hostel facilities for brilliant indigent students in the university.
The dialogue, to effect the kind gesture, took place between the representatives of the Foundation, led by its Regional Director, Faith Keskin, and the Management of LASU, led by the representatives of the Vice Chancellor, Professor Adenike Boyo at the VC’s Conference Room recently.
While presenting the proposal, NEAR Project Manager, Abdulmalik Bulakos, said the Foundation was into the provision of relief for people in health, hunger, water and education.
The Foundation targets the donation of a hostel facility which will cater for 103 students and boast of modern amenities and benefits including 24-hour-electricity supply, free meals and guidance and counselling services for students.
“We don’t just want to provide accommodation, but an enabling environment for learning. We also don’t want the students to worry about what they would eat as meals will be provided for them,” said Bulakos.
He disclosed that only students with 3.5 Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) and above who have zero discipline case, and who are indigent will qualify for a space.
While speaking, the representative of the VC said the gesture would go a long way to ameliorate the accommodation challenge faced by students, saying the project was a welcome addition to the existing hostel facilities being constructed on the campus.
