Delegates from the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) recently undertook a significant visit to the Vice Chancellor and council members of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) to explore potential collaborations in the field of technology-driven education.
The primary focus of discussions during the visit centred on the potential integration of smart and technology-based educational methodologies within the basic education framework. UBEC officials expressed a keen interest in leveraging the expertise of NOUN to advance staff training and introduce innovative educational approaches at the grassroots level.
Professor Olufemi Peters, the Vice Chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria, expressed enthusiasm about the possibilities of collaborating with UBEC. He emphasized the transformative potential of the partnership in revolutionizing the educational system through the effective use of technology to enhance learning outcomes.

The agreed roadmap for collaboration includes joint workshops and task forces for the actualization and execution of this collaborative endeavour. During their respective speeches, Professor Bashir Galadanci, the National Coordinator of the Digital Resource Centre at UBEC, and Dr. Aleshin Mayowa, the Director of Teacher Development at UBEC, underscored the urgent need to embrace modern learning models.
They emphasized the pivotal role of technology in fostering enhanced learning experiences for students nationwide.
Galadanci stressed the urgency of equipping educators with cutting-edge skills, highlighting the rapidly evolving landscape of education.
Mayowa echoed these sentiments, expressing confidence in NOUN’s capability to spearhead training initiatives and calling for collaborative programs to empower educators with essential resources.
