Efforts by the University of Ibadan (UI) Nigeria and Kabarak University in Kenya to establish a collaborative partnership are progressing well, with the recent visit of Professor Mellitus N. Wanyama, the Dean of the School of Music and Media Studies at Kabarak University, to UI.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aimed at fostering academic and cultural exchanges through mutual assistance in research is set to be signed between the two institutions.
During his courtesy visit to UI, Professor Wanyama met with the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, mni, FAS, who expressed optimism that the collaboration would strengthen the relationship between the universities.
Professor Adebowale emphasized UI’s interest in acquiring skills and knowledge from Kabarak University’s Department of Music, particularly as UI’s Department of Music is relatively new. He also pledged to extend the collaboration to other affiliated institutions, such as IITA, to enhance research and academic development.
Professor Wanyama expressed his hope that the MOU would be one of the most active in Africa, highlighting Kabarak University’s well-equipped facilities and its range of programs from bachelor’s degrees to Ph.D. levels.
The MOU is expected to cover various areas including research, exchange of academic staff and students, exchange of academic materials and information, transfer of academic credits, development of joint degree programs, and organization of conferences.
Additionally, Professor Wanyama expressed Kabarak University’s interest in joining the African Research Universities Alliance (ARUA) and the Consortium for Advanced Research Training in Africa (CARTA) through its partnership with UI.
