The University of Jos is taking steps to strengthen its collaboration with security agencies in Plateau State, with the goal of enhancing the safety and security of its staff and students, as well as the protection of university property.
This development was brought to light during a visit by the University Management, led by Vice-Chancellor Professor Tanko Ishaya, to the Plateau State Command of the Nigeria Police Force and the Office of the Department of State Services in Jos.
In an official statement released by Abdullahi Abdullahi, Senior Deputy Registrar of Information and Publications, Professor Tanko Ishaya, the Vice-Chancellor, expressed gratitude to the leadership of both security agencies for their ongoing efforts to maintain peace and security within the University and the broader State.
Professor Tanko emphasized the need for closer collaboration with the security personnel, acknowledging their steadfast dedication to peace, safety, and harmonious coexistence. He assured the security agencies of the University’s commitment to providing the necessary support and information to facilitate their work effectively.
Furthermore, the Vice-Chancellor voiced his concerns regarding continuous encroachment on University property by land grabbers, which poses a threat to the construction of a perimeter fence funded by the Federal Government through TETfund. He expressed hope that this issue would be addressed promptly to ensure the project’s completion.
In response, Plateau State Police Commissioner CP Okoro Julius Alawari affirmed the Force’s determination to create a peaceful and conducive atmosphere that promotes coexistence and socio-economic development in the State. CP Alawari emphasized that the Force has equipped its personnel with training on both kinetic and non-kinetic approaches, and they are open to collaboration with citizens in these endeavors.
The University Management also extended their visit to the Plateau State Command of the Department of State Services (DSS) to strengthen ties further.
