The British Council has said that it will facilitate stronger ties with the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to enhance and strengthen cordial relationships.
This was disclosed recently by the Director of Programmes British Council, Mr Chikodi Onyemerea, when the Council paid a courtesy visit to the Board’s National Headquarters, Bwari.
Onyemerea was accompanied by the Director of Exams Nigeria, Mr Deep Adhikari, and Senior Account Relationship Manager, Mr Akintola Oladunmoye.
According to Onyemerea, the visit was to thank the Board for nominating two of its staff to participate in the Council’s conference scheduled to be held between February 27 and 29, 2024 in South Africa.
He stated that the annual conference was to showcase the Council’s programes and activities for students exposed to the UK Curriculum.
He added that the conference would lay emphasis on best practices and engender new avenues to network and interface with other countries on best practices that they could replicate in their respective curricula.
Acknowledging that there had been cordial relationships between the two bodies, the Registrar JAMB, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, expressed optimism that the Board would continue to interact meaningfully with the Council at various levels.
Professor Oloyede hinted at the Council of a proposed training for the staff of the Board on spoken and written English to enhance staff efficiency and productivity.
Speaking on “A’ Level result verification, Onyemerea explained that two bodies exist, one of which is the recognizing organization, which verifies the results, and the centre where students will take the test and get their results.
He said that within the framework of Cambridge A’ Levels, the centre does not have access to the verification platform but the recognizing body will be issued with passwords to access a secured site, saying JAMB, as a recognized body, has been granted access to the secured site.
Responding, Professor Oloyede, stated that the Board had no problem in carrying out needed verifications, but noted that specific directives were given to holders of 2018 results to verify these with the Council on their own and bring the same to the Board as JAMB does not have access to pre-2018 results.
