The Vice Chancellor of Federal University, Oye Ekiti (FUOYE), Professor Abayomi Fashina, recently advised the incoming President of Nigeria, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to engage technocrats in tackling the many challenges facing education, economic, agriculture and business sectors of the nation.
He expressed this during the matriculation ceremony of the postgraduate students of the University held in Oye Ekiti, saying if the President-elect could adopt this strategy, Nigeria’s development would be rapid.
The don also made a strong appeal for University autonomy; this he said, would end incessant strikes affecting the academic calendar of the tertiary institutions.
He added that taking such policy direction would sanitise the system and ensure the smooth and adequate running of the University system that would be free of industrial actions.
In a related development, the Dean of the Postgraduate School, Professor Raphael Omolehin, expressed the major challenge facing the universities’ rapid growth was the lack of autonomy.
He added that the Federal Government should provide adequate funds for universities and improve staff welfare to end the regular strike.
