The Vice-Rector, International Affairs, Irkutsk National Research University Russia, Dr. Stepan Bykov, has said that the population of Nigerian students in his university in Russia inspired him to visit Covenant University to see the prospective areas of collaboration to work on.
Dr. Bykov said one-fifth of international student population in Irkutsk National Research University, Russia are Nigerian.
The don, accompanied by Head, International Affairs, Anna Melentera, wanted to collaborate with Covenant University on academic and research in the area of electrical engineering.
The Russian university is also considering this collaboration as a result of the outstanding position of Covenant University in the Times Higher Education Subject Ranking.
Dr. Bykov said the collaboration would be extended to cover academic mobility and the launch of double degree programmes, and as well sees the possibility of running a Russian language initiative as a summer school programme for those in academics.
In his response, the Vice Chancellor of Covenant University, Professor Abiodun H. Adebayo, said Covenant is open to collaboration, saying as a result of the year of existence of Irkutsk, both institutions would have the opportunity to learn from each other, share experiences and develop partnerships to advance knowledge.
Professor Adebayo expressed that Covenant has an international outlook, and as such will be interested in initiating the process if getting the Russian language initiative underway.
