Ahead of their mobilization for the mandatory industrial training programme, the Directorate of Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) of Federal University Oye Ekiti has begun to sensitize 300 and 400 levels students for the experience.
According to Bamidele Eniola and Adedeji Badejo, the Directorate began the sensitization process in February by organizing a one-day orientation exercise for the prospective students at the Ikole campus of the institution.
The affected students for now are the 300 and 400-level students of faculties of Engineering, Environmental Sciences, and Agriculture who were briefed on their expectations and obligations to the scheme.
The Area Manager of the Industrial Training Fund (ITF), Mr Gabriel Oladimeji informed the students that the organization came to give students needed information for the industrial training.
He added, “I want you to find a relevant place to your course of study to add value to your life. Six months can add value to your life.”
He expressed, “SIWES is a skills training programme designed to expose and prepare students of universities and other tertiary institutions for the industrial work situation they are likely to meet after graduation.”
Regarding insecurity in the country, he advised students not to walk alone wherever such an opportunity presented itself.
Speaking, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Fashina, represented by Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olubunmi Samuel Shittu, charged the students to pay attention to the trainers’ very crucial knowledge designed to equip them, as well as ensure that they obtain quality first-hand experience in any organization during the industrial attachment.
