The Civil Engineering Department of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife has received N1.5 million to establish a food bank for its students.
The Largesse was facilitated by the Managing Director of Planet Projects, Engineer Biodun Otunola an alumnus from a graduating set of the 2012/2013 session who donated a sum of N1million, and Engineer Joy Okoror Olurin who also supported the laudable initiative.
According to Otunola, the food gift was to protect the students against the current economic hardship during examinations, saying any contribution no matter the size will not only provide immediate relief to those in need but also create a supportive and nurturing environment for the students.
When the disbursement of the food began, over a hundred students benefitted, as several graduating sets and alumni have variously donated towards the needs of the departments.
The graduating set of 1982 has donated N12.5 million to address equipment needs in the Transportation and Environmental Engineering Laboratory, as the 1997/98 St also donated close to N1 million for the purchase of hard copy books for the Department.
