The Council and Management of Osun State University (UNIOSUN) has debunked the allegation of financial misconduct levelled against the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Odunayo Clement Adebooye. In a release by the institution signed by its Public Relations Officer, Ademola Adesoji, it stated that it has come to the notice of the Council that some bloggers it described as mischievous were purportedly claiming that the VC had spent $241,000 to purchase 2024 Lamborghini model.
The authority refuted the allegation, saying it was a malicious claim which should be disregarded in its entirety.
It described the VC as a highly respected scholar with a track record of integrity and a commitment to academic excellence.
It said that the VC is not a car enthusiast and has never shown interest in extravagant purchases and lifestyle.
“Despite being entitled to a new car as his official vehicle, the Vice Chancellor chose to buy and use a second-hand (tokunbo) Camry for the first one and a half years of his assumption of duty,” said the authority.
” It may interest the general public that the tenure of UNIOSUN’S Deputy Vice-Chancellor (ARIP), Registrar, Bursary, and University Librarian all expired between March and April 2024. The University, as a matter of policy, had to provide an official car for each of the newly appointed Officers and replace the existing “Tokunbo” utility vehicle of the Vice Chancellor…” the authority added.
“We want to state unequivocally that the vehicles procured were all fairly used Toyota Camry vehicles for officers who are statutorily entitled to brand new vehicles. This is a big sacrifice on the part of the University’s leaders,” it added.
“UNIOSUN has never, and is not at any point contemplating buying any Lamborghini for any of its Officers.
According to the authority members of the public should disregard the baseless rumour, saying both the VC and the University leadership remain dedicated to leading the University with integrity and humility.
