The management of Gateway Polytechnic, Sapaade, Ogun State, on Monday, announced the immediate shutdown of the institution following a robbery attack on the students in the early hours of Saturday, 3rd December 2023.
Armed robbers had made several attacks on the students, dispossessing them of their valuables, and molesting female students in recent times.
The latest robbery incident claimed the life of a student while nine others were injured.
A report has it that students who live off campus, residents of the Isara, Ipara and Ode communities have witnessed three attacks from the marauders in the last three weeks.
The situation has, however, forced the management to shut
down the school, pending when normalcy is restored.
In a memo signed by the Acting Registrar of the Polytechnic, J. O. Popoola, the school management announced the introduction of online classes for the students who just resumed the 2023/2024 academic session.
The President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Lucky Emonefe condemned the attack on Gateway Polytechnic and urged the Police and other security agencies to bring the criminals book.
