To forestall malpractices, admission racketeering and other irregularities, the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has decided that the 2023 Direct Entry (DE) registration will be conducted under strict supervision, and that registration would not only be restricted to JAMB PTCs.
This was contained in a statement by the Registrar and Chief Executive of the Board, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, who disclosed that in previous years some candidates used unacceptable and forged A’ level certificate/qualification to register for DE and eventually got admitted.
The statement said the Board, concerned stakeholders and institutions are working assiduously to detect such and the ones already found are being dealt with according to the provisions of the law.
It will be recalled that the Board commenced the 2023 DE registration on Monday Feb. 20, 2023 but had to immediately suspend it following the discovery of the plethora of devices and machinations to circumvent and compromise the standard of A’ level qualification required from the candidates.
According to the Board, recent joint operations of the Federal Ministry of Education and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) on DE qualifications brought to light some of these unsavoury and nefarious activities.
Meanwhile the Board has provided additional guidelines to all DE registration outlets (JAMB-owned centres).
It said it would only recognise 13 qualifications/certificates for the 2023 DE requirements as contained in the statement.
For those who desire to upgrade from University Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) to DE, only candidates with 2023 qualifications (in view) and who also uploaded the required awaiting result documents would be allowed to do so (with effect from 2024 requirements).
Already registered candidates who had earlier registered for the 2023 DE, before the exercise was suspended, would be requested to return to the registration centres and update their application, so as to comply with the new registration process.
