The new Registrar of the University of Ilorin, Mr. Mansur Adeleke Alfanla, has expressed his readiness to cooperate with the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, and other stakeholders of the University towards ensuring that the institution truly becomes a toast of all as he assured that he would be fair and just to all.
Mr. Alfanla made this declaration recently while featuring on a special edition of ‘Table Talk’, a current affairs programme of UNILORIN 89.3 FM, the official radio station of the University of Ilorin. The programme was anchored by the duo of Mr Agboola and Mr Temitope Olawuyi.
The new Registrar, who was accompanied to the radio studio by the University’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr Kunle Akogun and the Station Manager, Mr Idris Akintola Ibrahim (Alooma), assured the staff and students of the University that different approaches would be used towards engendering a more peaceful environment in order to stimulate an enduring maximum productivity.
Mr Alfanla added that staff of the University would also enjoy a remarkable improvement in their welfare as he assured that the physical and psychological environments in which they operate would be deliberately made more conducive.
Speaking on how he felt with his appointment, the Registrar said that he wasvery delighted with his emergence and assumption of duties as the 7th Registrar and Secretary to the Governing Council of the University.
He added that he regarded the appointment as a unique opportunity and a call to service, saying that it is also a challenge to him to prove his knowledge, experience and competence.
While noting that the office of Registrar of a big University like the University of Ilorin is ordinarily a huge and responsibility, the renowned administrator added that with a man likeProf. Egbewole as the Vice Chancellor of the University, coupled with the calibre of other distinguished and well meaning individuals and groups he would be working with, he was anticipatory of a very successful tenure of office.
Mr. Alfanla, who promised to be fair and just to every member of the University community, hinted that his’’ tenure would witness an insistence on strict adherence to all the rules and regulations of the University and based on laws governing the establishment of the institution’’.
While reminding students of the Better by far University that they are at the institution to pursue nothing but learning, the Registrar encouraged them to face their studies squarely for them to excel. He assured them that’’ their ensuing certificates and academic transcripts shall be issued to them as soon as they are through with their programmes and on demand as the case maybe’’.
On his previous engagement with the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and possible effects on his performances as the Registrar, Mr Alfanla said that his experiences in unionism have granted him more administrative exposure that would assist him to perform his functions better. Registry staff to serve on the University Governing Council as a representative of the Congregation, explained that unions are not and should not be antagonists to management.
He opined that unions are to struggle for the welfare of their members and not to rock the boat. He also added that unions are to complement the efforts of the management in various ways towards the betterment of a given establishment.
The Registrar, therefore, enjoined all the trade unions at the University to cooperate fully with the University management in the interest of the system and their members.
