Former Kaduna Central Senator, Sheu Sanni, has called on the Federal Government to take proactive measures and adopt a new strategy to stem the tide of abduction and banditry in the nation’s schools. He expressed this opinion having learnt of the release of 287 students abducted from Kuruga area of Kaduna State, saying the rescue was a good development.
He emphasised that a new strategy was necessary to prevent the recurrence of the ugly situation, especially in rural areas, adding that proactive measures must be taken to prevent such incidents.
The call for a new strategy was informed by the continuous vulnerability of schools in rural areas to abduction and insurgence, emphasizing that students in those areas who were prone to banditry and insurgence needed to be protected.
On March seven, bandits abducted 287 students and their Principal, Abubakar Isah, from LEA Primary School and Junior Secondary School, Kuruga town in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, demanding a ransom of N1billion for their release.
However, early on Sunday, the abducted students were released, but no one has been able to confirm whether or not a ransom was paid.
