35 Students of Kano Municipal Federal Constituency schooling in National Open University (NOUN) Kano Study Centre and others studying in Alqalam University, Katsina, have been granted N57 million worth of scholarship.
The largesse was made possible through the initiative of the ex-lawmaker who represented Kano Municipal Federal Constituency in the last dispensation, Honourable Sha’aban Ibrahim Sharada.
While the 35 students in NOUN enjoyed N7 million, students who pursue their studies in Alqalam University, Katsina, were awarded N50 million by Sharada who has been appointed pioneer Executive Secretary, Almajiri and Out of School Children Commission of Nigeria.
According to Inuwa Hamza Yunusa, the ex-lawmaker disclosed that the support came under his Educational Support Initiative to his constituents, which he assured while presenting the award in NOUN that he will continue to support, hoping that the development of the Constituency would be sustained by his successor, Engineer Sagir I. Koki.
Sharada however disclosed that the money will cover one session, saying the performance of individual students in the first session will determine how he pays for the remaining registration; hence it will be paid late.
The N7 million cheque given to NOUN, Kano Study Centre, was handed over to the Director, Mr Muddassir Ahmad Ishaq and other officials of the institution.
